Hamilton was proud a sponsor of the Community Alliance of the Far Eastside's (CAFE) 3rd Annual Community Awards Gala held on October 24th. The event celebrated the extraordinary individuals and organizations dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Indianapolis's Far Eastside community. Among the notable recipients was Hamilton's Director – Human Resources, Sarah Sparks, who was honored with the prestigious Change Agent Award. The Change Agent Award is presented to individuals who have planted the seeds of positive change and work tirelessly to elevate their communities.
With over 12 years of experience in human resources, Sarah Sparks joined Hamilton with a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment. Her focus on employee engagement, strategic business alignment, and diversity, equity, and inclusion has significantly impacted both Hamilton and the broader community. At Hamilton, Sparks oversees all HR functions, champions employee development, and ensures a safe and growth-oriented workplace.
“I am honored to be recognized as the 2024 recipient of the Change Agent Award with CAFE,” said Sarah Sparks. “CAFE is an organization that is inherently selfless in what they do for others. They are the example of when there is a need, there will be people ready to help. I want to thank CAFE for recognizing my contributions to help better the Far Eastside community in my own way. I believe we all have the opportunity to add value to those around us and CAFE gives us the opportunity to give back intentionally. I also want to thank Hamilton for giving me the opportunity to devote time to our partnership with CAFE and the Far Eastside community. Hamilton truly cares about the impact they make on everything they touch. I strive to continue my partnership with our Far Eastside community and help build a better tomorrow for all of us.”
Hamilton's partnership with CAFE underscores a shared vision of positive change and community empowerment. Kendra Nowell, CAFE's CEO, emphasized the organization's goal, stating, "Our mission is to improve the quality of life within the Far Eastside community by creating a rooted network of partnerships, resources, and assistance to empower and support its residents."
The Community Awards Gala was a celebration of CAFE's 27 years of service to the Far Eastside community. The event included a three-course meal, lively dancing, and a performance by the renowned saxophonist, Saxappeal. CAFE’s event featured a lineup of speakers, including CEO Kendra Nowell and U.S. Senator La Keisha Jackson.
CAFE has been a resident-driven, neighborhood-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing community needs through development initiatives. The Annual Community Awards Gala serves to acknowledge those who have made significant contributions to these efforts. Along with Sarah Sparks, honorees included Michael Johnson (Rebecca Young Shining Star Award), Rico Francis (The Way Maker Award), Wendy Mejia (Community Advocate Award), Kassandra Green (Rise Up Award), Ashton King (Youth of the Year Award), and Palmer Trucks (Partner of the Year Award).
