June is Get on Board Month at Leadership Indianapolis!

Leadership Indianapolis will host its popular Get on Board event, presented by AES Indiana, to connect interested individuals with local non-profits looking for board, committee and volunteer talent. The event will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 27 at Newfields. Participants can meet directly with a wide variety of organizations to find a perfect fit for their skills and talents.

"Get on Board has a proven track record of connecting talented individuals with the non-profit organizations that need their skills and expertise,” said Beth Perdue Outland, vice president of Leadership Indianapolis. “By matching future leaders with meaningful opportunities to serve, we are creating a stronger, more vibrant community that benefits everyone."

Get on Board Success Stories

Paradise Bradford is the founder of Pretty Passionate Hands, a non-profit organization that focuses on providing support, mentorship and guidance to the families of teen mothers and fathers. Bradford grew up in Terre Haute and took part in last year’s Get on Board to network with other non-profit leaders and garner board/volunteer support for PPH.

“As a transplant to Indianapolis and leader of a new non-profit, it is important that I build sustainable relationships in the community. Through the various Leadership Indianapolis programs I have participated in, including Get on Board, I have grown more confident as a leader and have connected with some amazing people in the city. I cannot recommend Leadership Indianapolis programs enough.”

Kristen Lampkin is the director of Business Equity for Indy (BEI) with The Central Indiana Corporate Partnership. Kristen has been working in human resources for more than a decade and focuses on finding top talent. She earned one of her first board appointments after attending Get on Board in 2013.

“Indianapolis is rich with non-profits, but navigating the board landscape for those organizations can be time consuming and challenging,” said Lampkin. “Attending Get on Board took the guesswork out of the process by creating a space for several nonprofits to gather and meet potential board members like me.”

Get on Board is free but registration is required. All registered participants may request a free ticket to enter Newfields at 3 p.m. to enjoy the museum prior to attending Get on Board.

In addition, Leadership Indianapolis is hosting three virtual workshops in the weeks leading up to Get on Board. The interactive sessions will feature local civic leaders and are designed to prepare participants for serving on boards. The workshops are $10 each.

  • Know Your Why – noon to 1 p.m. on June 6
  • Board Basics – noon to 1 p.m. on June 13
  • What I’ve Learned Serving on a Non-profit Board – noon to 1 p.m. on June 20

"These workshops are designed to provide individuals who are new to serving on a board the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to make informed decisions, build strong relationships, and lead with impact,” said Outland. “By investing in leadership development, we can create a pipeline of talented and effective leaders who are equipped to serve their communities in meaningful ways."
