Andrew Black Consulting

ABOUT

Andrew Black is a consultant by day and a playwright by night. At his best, he combines both these passions, as when he is teaching playwriting at the Indiana Writers Center—where he has built a highly successful playwriting curriculum and has helped all kinds of students tell their stories. He has an MFA in playwriting from Ohio University and an MS in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from San Francisco State.

Andrew has enjoyed considerable successes as a playwright, starting with the development of several comedies with co-author Patricia Milton. Their work has placed in the final rounds of a national playwriting contest, and has been produced across the country in places including San Diego, Palm Springs, Phoenix, Memphis and New York City.

Andrew’s solo work has likewise been successful, including being honored with the New Works of Merit Award from the 13th Street Repertory Theatre in New York City for the play Another Man’s Slingbacks.

While studying at Ohio University, he was the recipient of the prestigious Trisolini Fellowship, which allowed him to work on his play Puppet Man. This work has since been produced in Indianapolis and will soon take the stage in Denver, Colorado.

He currently hosts a successful series of podcasts for the Play Submissions Helper website, and is working on a book, The Magic of Playwriting. Andy lives in Indianapolis with his husband Dos Avina and their two wonderful greyhounds, Charlie and Marco.
