Stacia Murphy is a community-centered advocate who gained her experience in project and client management and communications in business and nonprofits for over a decade. Stacia began her career as an evaluation consultant, using qualitative research methods and data analysis as a primary tool for improving capacity and sustainability of organizational programming. As an equity fellow at the Kheprw Institute, a nonprofit with a mission of fostering community agency, Stacia developed and implemented an engagement plan for equity within public transit. She also served as project coordinator for the Indy Community Innovation Lab which crafted new solutions towards economic stability for previously incarcerated individuals and youth aging out of foster care. This collaborative Lab was operated by New York-based EmcArts and three local conveners, Spirit & Place of Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis; Groundwork Indy, and the Kheprw Institute with national funding from the MetLife Foundation. Stacia worked with community partners to organize the Equitable Development Assembly, tackling equitable transit-oriented development and gentrification in Indianapolis, along with serving on the Indy Moves Transportation Taskforce for the City of Indianapolis.
Currently, Stacia is a PhD candidate in American Studies at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis with a focus on equity in economic and community development. A musician, she often volunteers with arts organizations to bring her extensive network of leaders, artists, community relationships and creativity to the table. Her energetic, inquisitive son is a driving force of her advocacy.
