Health & Science Innovations Helps to Skill-UP Indiana

Indianapolis, IN – Health & Science Innovations (HSI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is one of eleven organizations in Indiana to be honored with the ability to help carry out the initiatives of the Skill-UP! Indiana grant.  The Skill-UP! Indiana grant from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) works in conjunction with Governor Holcomb’s initiative for Hoosiers to have greater workforce opportunities.

Through their initiative, and program guidelines, the DWD explained that these eleven organizations were to develop “Innovation Networks” that “are centered around employers, educators, economic and workforce development partners, as well as other critical community partners in order to skill up students, adults, and incumbent workers within a regional labor market.”

HSI’s project specifically centers around an initiative they call The IDEAA Partnership.  HSI explains that “The IDEAA Partnership is a Health & Science Innovations workforce development initiative, and a cross-sector partnership dedicated to the implementation of a comprehensive pipeline that attracts and prepares new talent to meet the needs of employers with engineering, prototyping, and manufacturing operations; through hands-on workshops, courses, certification curriculum, credentialing, project-based learning and practice opportunities.”  The IDEAA acronym stands for Innovation, Design, Engineering, Advanced-Manufacturing, and Automation.

HSI and the other ten organizations each have appointed geographical areas. The regional areas HSI covers are within Marion, Hamilton, Boone, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Morgan, Shelby, and Bartholomew counties.

HSI also has a group of Networking Partners helping in this process. These Networking Partners help to successfully carry out program goals and initiatives outlined in the Indiana Department of Workforce Development’s Skill-UP! Indiana grant and the effort Governor Holcomb is extending for Indiana Hoosiers.

Currently, HSI is honored to have, and have had, the following Networking Partners: Alivio Medical Center; Allison Transmission; ANSYS; Better Youth Outcomes; CAE-net.com; Catalyst Product Development Group; Club Cyberia; Connect Think; Cummins; DaiPur Design; Direct Employers Institute; Eleven Fifty Academy; Eli Lilly; First Maker Space; Honda Manufacturing Company; Indiana Afterschool Network; Indy Chamber of Commerce; IUPUI School of Engineering and Technology; IUPUI School of Science; IVY Tech Community College of Central Indiana; Jag; Lilly Endowment; Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust; Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust; Ruckus; Studio B; Tangram; The Latinas Welding Guild; and W/Purpose. HSI also brought in Cornerstone Tactics LLC, to help with their organizational business developmental growth, networking and collaboration efforts, workforce development, community engagement, and other areas of need.  View their progress by visiting: www.scienceinnovations.org.

With the growing demand for skilled workers, they welcome added support and could use more Networking Partners, especially since their coverage extends to nine counties. They could use more collaborative business help with professional training in areas of Design, Engineering, and Advanced-Manufacturing; and, help from those who can supply training space or resources.  HSI welcomes more program participants, especially individuals who are seeking non-traditional pathways to join or re-join the workforce. They welcome employers who may want to extend this program to their employees; those interested in supplying internships for program participants; and, businesses willing to hire individuals who have successfully completed a series of training programs.  Lastly, HSI could use help with funding matches that could cover program costs or cost-free training to those in need.
