The Steve Allee Quintet to perform at The Jazz Kitchen (5377 N College Ave) on Saturday, December 8 for two shows, 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at thejazzkitchen.com or at the box office in person or by phone (317) 253-4900 Monday thru Friday after 12 p.m.

Expect a journey of straight ahead original compositions and jazz standard gems from this all-star quartet.

Pianist, composer and arranger Steve Allee is a veteran of more than 35 years on the music scene, working principally in jazz, writing and performing for syndicated radio programs, network television and motion pictures, and as a music educator.

A native son and longtime resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, Steve was fortunate to grow up in the hometown of many jazz greats, including brothers Wes, Buddy and Monk Montgomery, Slide Hampton, J.J. Johnson, David Baker, Freddie Hubbard and Melvin Rhyne, among others.

His playing style has a touch, sparkling clarity and improvisational variations reminiscent of the late Bill Evans, as well as a very strong blues influence that Steve credits to his exposure to Buddy Montgomery and Horace Silver.

THE JAZZ KITCHEN
The Jazz Kitchen opened its doors in 1994 as Indy’s premier destination for jazz and beyond. Recognized as one of the “Top 100 Jazz Clubs in the World” by Downbeat Magazine, The Jazz Kitchen presents a wide variety of local, regional and international jazz artists in an intimate 140 seat supper club style venue. Past notable performers include Harry Connick Jr., Ray Brown, JJ Johnson, Jane Monheit, Maynard Ferguson, Billy Cobham, Diane Schuur, John Scofield, Soulive, James Moody, David “Fathead” Newman and Dee Dee Bridgewater. The Jazz Kitchen menu is NOLA meets Midwest cuisine. A touch of the “Big Easy” represented by Satchmo’s Etoufee, Not-So-Cajun Chicken, ‘po boys and Crescent City Crab Cakes complementing midwest fresh-from-the butcher steaks, chops and burgers. In February 2009, the corporate partnership of The Jazz Kitchen and the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation took over production of the Indy Jazz Fest, an annual festival held in September. www.thejazzkitchen.com
