Over 71% of business leaders have identified our region’s limited mass transit system as a major hurdle for job growth.
For over a decade, the Indy Chamber has fought to expand access to mass transit in Indianapolis to connect people to jobs, opportunity, and independence. Our biggest step forward comes in the form of a referendum on the November 8th ballot in Marion County. The Indy Chamber is proud to announce its partnership with Transit Drives Indy, a coalition of business and community organizations with the shared goal of an accessible, connective mass transit system worthy of a world-class city.
Transit Drives Indy will make its public debut on Thursday, August 25 at 12:00pm on the South Plaza of the Indianapolis City-County Building, just steps away from IndyGo’s new Julia M. Carson Transit Center. Transit will also take center stage at the Indy Chamber’s premier political event: HobNob Election Showcase on September 1 at the Crowne Plaza at Historic Union Station.
In addition to these opportunities, we encourage all individuals, businesses, and organizations to “get on board” and voice their support via Transit Drives Indy’s newly created website.
Between now and November, Transit Drives Indy will be out in the community to present information on the Marion County Transit Plan, explain the importance of passing the referendum, and show how it will create a better future for Indy and its citizens. We’re also reaching out to neighborhood groups, nonprofit boards, businesses and churches and encouraging them to request a Transit Drives Indy speaker for their next meeting.
Kelly Mirgeaux of the Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF) will be leading this coalition and can be reached at [email protected] if you’d like more information on getting involved. You can also reach out to Matt Impink of the Indy Chamber at [email protected].
