Global Digital Marketing Company Picks Indianapolis for North American Headquarters

“The appeal of Indianapolis, which has already been dubbed ‘Midwest’s Silicon Valley,’ is evident,” said Ohad Hecht, chief operating officer of Emarsys. “The Eastern Time Zone is ideal for conducting business on both American coasts, Europe and in Asia. Additionally, companies like Geofeedia, Tinderbox and Interactive Intelligence have helped make the area attractive to a highly talented workforce. Infact, the Midwest has a higher concentration of Fortune 500 companies than any other region in the country, according to Forbes, not to mention a bevy of world-class engineering schools.”

The Vienna, Austria-based company will invest $3.2 million to lease, renovate and equip more than 15,000 square feet of office space in downtown Indianapolis’ Market Tower. Following Emarsys’ launch of limited operations in Indiana in May, construction is currently underway to update and expand into its full offices, which will house a headquarters staff serving clients including eBay, Toys “R” Us, Yahoo and Volvo.

“Indy continues to attract top talent from around the globe, and our tech sector is thriving as a result,” said Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard. “I am so pleased that Emarsys recognized all that our city and our incredible workforce have to offer, and I welcome the company’s North American headquarters to Indianapolis.”

Emarsys currently employs more than 450 associates at 13 locations around the world. Of its current 25-member team in the United States, more than 80 percent are located in Indiana. The company is now hiring for sales, customer support and professional services positions at its Indianapolis office. Interested applicants may apply online at www.careers.emarsys.com.

Founded in 2000, Emarsys serves more than 1,200 clients in 140 countries around the world with its commerce marketing platform, providing a complete and integrated solution. Many members of the company’s North American team, including Sean Brady, president of the Emarsys North American division, have deep roots in the Indianapolis technology sector with previous leadership experience at ExactTarget, now a Salesforce company.

“We’re seeing companies like Emarsys recognize our growing niche in marketing tech by choosing to expand into our market to leverage the activity and knowledge base here,” said Michael Huber, Indy Chamber president and CEO. “With the right elements like workforce and cultural amenities, we’re able to compete with world-class cities to attract quality jobs and major international firms. This is a good win for us.”

Pending approval by its board of directors, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation will offer Emarsys North America Inc. up to $3,825,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $135,000 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans. These incentives are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Indianapolis will propose additional incentives to its Metropolitan Development Commission for approval at the request of Develop Indy, a business unit of the Indy Chamber.

“We continue to see a surge of tech firms like Emarsys choosing to bring quality, great paying jobs to Indiana,” said Governor Mike Pence. “As a regional hub for technical and engineering innovation, Indiana is attracting companies that are looking for the skilled and dedicated workforce needed to grow their businesses. Coupled with our low taxes and low regulatory environment, Indiana continues to prove that we are a state that works.”

Companies like Emarsys continue to choose Indiana as their base of operations, building the Hoosier State into a Midwest tech leader. More than 5,000 technology-related jobs have been created in central Indiana alone since 2009, growing at a rate of 17 percent, which is more than double the growth rate of all occupations. Tech jobs in Indiana pay more than $75,000 a year on average, according to TechPoint, Indiana’s technology growth initiative.

“We’re incredibly excited to call Indianapolis home,” said Brady. "There is an exceptionally talented workforce here and the tech community is growing at an incredible rate. We’re proud to become another leading tech company headquartered in the Midwest, and we’re looking forward to becoming a part of the movement making Indianapolis the next center for technology innovation."

The Hoosier State stands out as the best place in the nation for tech firms like Emarsys to grow. Indiana’s corporate tax rate is on a reduction schedule to reach 4.9 percent, compared with rates in California’s Silicon Valley as high as 8.8 percent. Along with an overall lower cost of doing business and a rate of unemployment more than a full percent lower than California’s, Indiana is ranked among the top 10 states in the nation for doing business by Chief Executive magazine, while the same survey ranks California as the worst state in the nation for business.
