“Our greenest store yet with 100 percent customer service!” That’s how Debbie Grubb, the store manager, describes the new Marsh supermarket that opened in Downtown Indianapolis last week.
Located in the new Axis Building, 227 W. Michigan, the 43,000 sf. store is designed to replicate an open marketplace, abundant with fresh fruit and vegetables. “We’ve got windows up and down, with a mezzanine that overlooks the market. It’s a place to shop and it’s a place to gather, with seating for 100 and WIFI,” she said.
The store includes large display of fresh produce, with a significant organic section. There are hundreds of gluten-free, low sodium and organic products throughout the store, marked with colorful shelf tags. There’s an extensive bulk food section with more than 100 items.
There are in-store kiosks where you can place a sandwich or a large deli order section and then receive a text message when your order is ready for pick-up. A fulltime chef will prepare hot meals for one or one hundred with many ready to grab-and-go.
“Freshly grilled items, bread you can order and buy by the slice and an unbelievably extensive wine department (with a fulltime wine steward) are just a few of the other features,” Grubb added. The store will also feature a service meat department and a pharmacy. “
“We did our research on the neighborhood we’ll serve and have been collecting information about the newest and best practices in grocery markets,” said Tom O’Boyle, CEO and president of Marsh Supermarkets. “This concept store will have a strong presence in the downtown area that is experiencing rapid growth. It will be the perfect complement to the Lockerbie Marsh which has served downtown for nearly 30 years,” he added. “With two stores downtown, Marsh will be able to serve the larger community of people who live, work and play in Indianapolis.”
The store will be open from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m., Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. There will be parking spots for cars and bikes in the attached garage. It’s also the location of one of the new bike share stations.
