KGR is pleased to announce Erika Steuerwald recently joined our team.
Erika advises healthcare industry clients on a wide variety of regulatory and litigation matters, including federal and state statutory regulatory compliance on behalf of hospitals, physicians, skilled nursing facilities, assisted and independent living facilities, home health and hospice agencies, and mental healthcare facilities. She also represents healthcare providers in administrative (licensure) matters before the Indiana Professional Licensing Boards including the Medical Licensing Board, Health Facility Administrators Board, Board of Pharmacy, Board of Podiatric Medicine, State Board of Dentistry, and the Nursing Board. She provides legal counsel regarding a wide range of healthcare-related issues including HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and state data privacy and confidentiality laws. Erika has represented healthcare clients in variety of settings including state court, federal court, and administrative agencies at the state and federal levels.
Erika previously worked as a Deputy Attorney General in the Indiana Office of the Attorney General’s Medical Licensing Section. In this role, she investigated and prosecuted licensure complaints against various health care practitioners, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, and health facility administrators. Erika also worked as Staff Attorney at the Indiana State Department of Health, where her practice focused on administrative litigation and regulatory enforcement involving home health care agencies, health care facilities, and environmental matters.
She received her law degree from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law with a certificate in Health Law. As a law student, she gained valuable experience working as a judicial extern to Magistrate Judge Mark Dinsmore of the Southern District Court of Indiana. Additionally, Erika served as Senior Legislative Assistant and Intern Director for the Indiana House of Republican Caucus and as Deputy Legislative Director for the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration.
Erika graduated from Indiana University Bloomington with a Bachelor of Arts, where she was a Cox Scholar and a Director of the Indiana University Memorial Union Board. Erika is active in the Indianapolis community and currently serves on the Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series. She has also served in executive leadership roles with the Junior League of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Women in the Law Division and Healthcare Section.
