Indy Chamber Appoints Susan Preble as Vice President of State Government Affairs

Mar 3, 2026 at 6am. INDIANAPOLIS. Today, the Indy Chamber announced the appointment of Susan Preble as its new Vice President of State Government Affairs, bringing more than 20 years of experience in fiscal policy, legislative affairs, and government relations to the organization’s advocacy team. 

Preble most recently served as Assistant to the President for State Government Relations at Indiana State University, where she led state-level engagement and advanced strategic policy priorities on behalf of the institution. Prior to that role, she spent 15 years as Fiscal Analyst for the Indiana State Senate Democratic Caucus, overseeing fiscal policy for the caucus with a focus on state and local tax policy, education, economic development, and the state budget. 

“Susan brings unmatched depth in state fiscal policy and a clear understanding of how legislation shapes our economic future,” said Taylor Hughes, Chief of Staff at the Indy Chamber. “Her expertise, relationships, and strategic approach will significantly strengthen our voice at the Statehouse and advance policies that support business growth and regional competitiveness.” 

Throughout her career, Preble has played a key role in shaping major fiscal and policy discussions in Indiana. She staffed the Senate Appropriations and Tax and Fiscal Policy committees, the State Budget Committee, and served on the Revenue Forecast Technical Committee. Her background also includes leadership roles with the Indiana Legislative Services Agency, Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, and the City of Indianapolis Department of Public Works. 

Preble holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, a Master of Public Administration, and a Juris Doctor from Indiana University.  

In her new role, Preble will lead the Chamber’s state government affairs strategy, working closely with lawmakers and regional stakeholders to advance policy priorities that drive economic vitality, fiscal responsibility, and long-term prosperity for the Indy region.
