Turning Passion into Profit: Keiana Whatley’s Journey from Corporate Career to Business Owner

Keiana Whatley spent years building a successful corporate career, but her passion for entrepreneurship led her to pursue her dream of starting her own business. While working full-time, she enrolled in beauty college in the evenings and began growing her clientele. While working full-time, she started attending beauty college in the evenings and began to grow her clientele. Upon graduation, many of her clients continued to support her, and soon, Keiana was ready to take the leap into full-time entrepreneurship. In 2023, she founded Beauty & Beyond Nail Care Spa, a business dedicated to providing exceptional customer service and creating memorable experiences for every patron.

Keiana found that many of the skills she honed in her corporate career translated seamlessly to running her own business. Recognizing the importance of understanding every aspect of business operations, she took full advantage of the opportunity when a mentor introduced her to the Business Ownership Initiative (BOI) at the Indy Chamber. Keiana worked with a business coach who helped her secure the capital needed for overhead and new equipment. By 2024, she was able to fully devote herself to Beauty & Beyond Nail Care Spa, and the business is flourishing. In fact, demand is so high that Keiana has had to turn away walk-ins. As she looks ahead, she plans to hire another nail technician and is working with her business coach to forecast future expansion and growth.

Keiana believes programs like BOI are vital for entrepreneurs. “Get around people who can help you cultivate your business,” she advises. “You might have the passion and the technical skills, but they show you how to develop those skills into a profitable business.”
