Messer Construction Co. is proud to be leading three major projects as part of Ball State University’s comprehensive plan to revitalize The Village commercial district next to campus.
Messer and Fairmount Properties broke ground on the Performing Arts Center in mid-November. At approximately 65,000 square feet, the building’s two main levels will contain a lobby, box office, 420+ seat theater, black box studio, atrium and back-of-house areas. A partial lower level will house the mechanical room, stage trap room, orchestra pit, etc.
Ratio has designed the Performing Arts Center to LEED Silver standards. Other key design and engineering partners include Fink Roberts & Petrie, Heapy, Cripe, Kirkegaard, and Nextstage Design.
Adjoining the Performing Arts Center will be the six-story Cantio Hotel, developed by Schahet Hotels LLC with Messer as the construction manager. The hotel will feature 97 guest rooms as well as a restaurant, fitness center, rooftop terrace and conference rooms. The building envelope will complement the Performing Arts Center, with design and engineering services provided by Ratio, Fink Roberts & Petrie, Heapy, Cripe, The Gettys Group, and C&T Design & Equipment Co.
Most recently, Messer was awarded the contract to build The Village’s Center for Innovation, encompassing 31,400 square feet of classroom, lab and production space for the university and industry partners to support entrepreneurship and small business development. Foundation work will begin in February. Ratio, Heapy, FRP and Cripe are leading design and engineering.
The targeted completion timeline for all three projects is summer 2026.
