Reward High Schools for Supporting Dual-Credit Attainment
In May 2023, Indiana passed a first-of-its-kind budget line item that provides financial bonuses to high schools for producing students who earn one or two full years of college credit while in high school.
When policymakers think about college “accessibility,” they tend to focus exclusively on providing tuition support to students who successfully complete high school. The results leave much to be desired.
Since 2013, the Greater Education Opportunities Academies’ comprehensive college-support approach has led to more than 60 students earning associate degrees before graduating from its high school in Gary, Indiana.
