Indianapolis Propylaeum August Porch Concert with John Alvarado

About the Series:

The Indianapolis Propylaeum is proud to present the 2023 Porch Concert Series. This series will feature three diverse concerts performing on the beautiful Propylaeum porch in the Summer 2023. From June to August, the outdoor concerts allow guests to spread out and relax on the Propylaeum’s expansive lawn while enjoying various styles of music.

The concert is free and open to the public. Guests can arrive at 6 PM to find their seats and get a drink from the cash bar. The performance will start at 7 PM. If able, a suggested donation of $15/person is encouraged.

About John Alvarado:

Back by popular demand from his debut performance at the 2022 Porch Concert Series, we are excited to welcome back John Alvarado!

John Alvarado received his Bachelors in Music Performance from DePaul University in Chicago and his Master of Music Performance from Arizona State University. He has been performing in the Indianapolis area since 2004. While his formal training is in classical and flamenco guitar, his musical interests span a wide range including classical, jazz, flamenco, rock, Latin, and more. All these interests combine to create a solo guitar repertoire informed by his diverse interests yet rooted in his love of the guitar as a solo concert instrument.

His performances have included appearances at the Indianapolis Art Center, Eiteljorg Museum, Indiana History Center, Butler University, Clowes Hall, IUPUI, and Butler University. He has also been a frequent guest on the radio show “Indy Arts and Entertainment.” In 2008 he was awarded the prestigious Innovative Artist award from IUPUI for his work. In 2013 he was awarded a Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship by the Arts Council of Indianapolis.

FAQ:

What is the timeline of the event?

  • 6:00 - 7:00 PM: Doors open, guests arrive and find their spots on the lawn!
  • 7:00 - 8:00 PM: Band performs

Will there be food and drinks?

The Propylaeum will have a cash bar selling seltzers, beer, soda, and water. Sip & Share Wines will have a table selling vegan, artisanal wines and Tulip Tree Creamery will have a table selling cheese boxes.

Are guests allowed to bring their own alcohol to this event?

NO. Guests are strictly prohibited from bringing their own alcohol onto the Propylaeum property. If a guest is seen bringing in their own alcohol, they will be asked to leave.

Are guests allowed to bring their own food to this event?

YES! Guests are welcome to bring in their own food and snacks to enjoy during the concert.

What is seating like for the concert?

Guests can seat themselves and doors open at 6pm. Please bring your own chair/blanket to sit on.
