WGU Indiana Establishes Inaugural Distinguished Alumni Council

WGU INDIANA ESTABLISHES INAUGURAL

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI COUNCIL

INDIANAPOLIS  – Western Governors University Indiana (WGU Indiana) recently named 10 Hoosier alumni to its newly launched WGU Indiana Distinguished Alumni Council; all named members exemplify growth in their professional careers after earning their degree through the online competency-based university. Members of this esteemed group currently work for and have held various leadership positions with major employers across the state including Fifth Third Bank, Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., Indiana Chamber of Commerce and more.

These individuals will serve as vocal advocates for WGU Indiana, and expand the reach of the university’s mission to provide equitable access to all and serve the needs of underserved or underrepresented demographics. Members will also provide strategic counsel to WGU Central Region leadership as part of their role with the council.

“Our distinguished alumni council members are some of our most important ambassadors,” said Annalisa Holcombe, WGU Senior Vice President. “They use their knowledge of WGU and their local connections to help create a relevant and meaningful education for our students and to develop authentic and valuable alumni experiences.”

The selected alumni will serve a two-year term and were chosen for their alignment with WGU's core beliefs and embodiment of leadership aspects. These graduates’ outstanding careers and community achievements make them stand out as shining examples of the mission of Western Governors University: to change lives for the better by creating pathways to opportunity.

“Establishing the Distinguished Alumni Council is a testament to the impact WGU Indiana has had on our state since becoming the university’s first state affiliate in the country in 2010,” said Alison Bell, WGU Indiana chancellor and regional vice president. “Our alumni have gone on to lead impressive careers since earning their degrees, forging a path forward for future students to do the same. This educational pathway and career readiness, in turn, strengthens Indiana’s workforce at a time when it needs it the most.”
