Counterpart is all about puzzles, building custom software solutions that fit perfectly to resolve business challenges and create efficiencies. Founded in 1993 by three Bell Labs employees, Counterpart builds custom software solutions that solve business challenges and create efficiencies. Collectively, the founders invented the 32-bit graphics card and invented the firmware for the modem, so it’s fair to say they’re experts in their field.

Since Counterpart’s inception, it has delivered solutions to organizations like the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and Quillo, a platform designed to help organizations support people with disabilities. Working on 30 to 35 projects at a time allows the 18-person Counterpart team to get to know their clients and build genuine relationships. 

That bespoke, real approach is reflected in the close-knit and value-oriented company culture. Counterpart plans quarterly outings to encourage camaraderie amongst the team and allow its employees to interact outside the office with each other and clients, ensuring a happy and healthy work balance. 

The combination of balance and delivering results is second nature to Counterpart, which is why they have received several Powderkeg awards—including being named one of the “Best Companies to Work For” in 2022 and having “Top-Rated Culture” in 2020. 

“We feel most fulfilled when our clients receive recognition and awards for the projects we work on with them,” Drew Linn, Chief Strategy Officer at Counterpart, said. 

After joining the Indy Chamber as a member, Linn got involved in the organization’s efforts through board leadership and the Business Ownership Initiative, and Counterpart’s Marketing Manager, Lauren Dodrill, is part of the Chamber Ambassador Program.  

“Witnessing the impact and relationship that the Indy Chamber has on our community through Counterpart’s deep support and involvement really inspired me to be more than just a member,” Dodrill said. “[It’s having an] opportunity to be more engaged, build a relationship with them, and just be a proud contributor to this empowering community force,” said Dodrill. 

Through Linn’s other company, Boomerang Property Services, he takes advantage of the Indy Chamber Health Alliance membership. The Health Alliance gives Linn access to benefits for his employees at a lower cost, and since all his providers are under Anthem, it was an easy decision.  

“If I'm getting the same kind of coverage, but it's less expensive, and it's got the Chamber behind it, it just feels that much stronger to us,” Linn said.
