Indy Chamber Appoints Marcela Montero as Director of Hispanic Business Council

Ind. (January 10, 2023)—Announced today, the Indy Chamber has appointed Marcela Montero to director of the Hispanic Business Council. Montero, who joined the Indy Chamber as a sales representative in 2021, has been promoted after an exceptional first year resulting in a 120 percent increase in Hispanic business members and nearly $40,000 in membership revenue.

"Marcela walked into the Indy Chamber with a determination that's helped strengthen the Hispanic Business Community across the Indy Region,” said Moira Carlstedt, interim president & CEO, Indy Chamber. “Serving as the director of the Hispanic Business Council will provide Marcela greater opportunities and resources to support Hispanic businesses at every stage of their needs.”

Montero, featured via Indy Maven during Hispanic Heritage Month, grew up in Ecuador until her family moved to the U.S. in 2001. She witnessed first-hand what it took for her parents to manage two careers, a successful consulting business, and a family. From a very young age, Montero felt called to help make entrepreneurship more accessible for Hispanic and minority business owners. Her experiences have already led her to create innovative programs offered to the community that support their specific needs.

“The Indy Chamber is well-known for our events, and Marcela quickly identified ways our events could better support the needs of the Hispanic business community,” said Stacia Murphy, senior vice president of enterprise services. “Marcela united our Hispanic stakeholders to create Conexión Empresarial, a Spanish event series cultivated especially for the Hispanic entrepreneur set. That intentional, forward-thinking has enabled a great number of Hispanic businesses to tap into resources they didn’t previously know existed.
