Former DOJ Prosecutor Jason M. Covert Joins Taft

Taft Law is pleased to welcome Jason M. Covert as a partner in the firm’s Compliance, Investigations, and White Collar Defense and Commercial Litigation practice groups.  Jason will work out of Taft’s Indianapolis and Washington, D.C. offices.  This hire continues Taft’s strategic expansion into the Washington, D.C. market by adding yet another seasoned DOJ prosecutor to Taft’s already-deep bench of former government attorneys.

Prior to joining Taft, Covert spent more than a decade with the federal government, serving the last six years as a white-collar prosecutor in the Market Integrity and Major Frauds Unit, with the DOJ’s, Criminal Division, Fraud Section. At the Fraud Section, Covert investigated and prosecuted individuals and corporations engaged in complex white-collar matters across the United States and internationally, including securities fraud, accounting fraud, investment fraud, bank fraud, environmental fraud, insider trading, FCPA violations, and money laundering. While at the DOJ, he also served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia.  Before joining the DOJ, Covert worked at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, serving as an enforcement attorney in its Washington, D.C. headquarters.

Covert joins the ranks of other Taft attorneys who were previously with the DOJ in various roles, including Jackie M. Bennett, Jr., Peter E. Deegan, Jr., Dominick S. Gerace II, Christopher T. Grohman, Ralph W. Kohnen, Robert K. McBride, Jeremy A. Morris, and Trent J. Sandifur. Taft partners Charles A. Bowers, Jayna M. Cacioppo, Jeanne M. Cors, John R. Mitchell, David H. Thomas, and Chad R. Ziepfel also focus a significant portion of their practices on white-collar defense.

Taft’s recently opened Washington, D.C. office, located at 200 Massachusetts Ave NW, Suite 500, Washington, D.C. 20001, includes members of the firm’s Public Affairs Strategies Group, as well as its Compliance, Investigations, and White Collar Defense Group.  The firm’s Washington, D.C. office is focused on providing government relations services and compliance, investigations, and white-collar defense, all with Taft’s client-driven focus in the heart of our nation’s capital.

Covert earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Indiana University Maurer School of Law and his B.A, summa cum laude, from Indiana University.
