Indiana Woman Chosen as Arthritis Foundation Walk to Cure Arthritis National Honoree

March 8,2022 [Indianapolis, Indiana] – Angie Harrison of Indianapolis has accepted the role to serve as 2022’s national Walk to Cure Arthritis Honoree. As the National Honoree, Angie will help raise awareness of the impact of arthritis on children, adults and communities, and help promote the Arthritis Foundation’s life-changing tools, resources, science and advocacy initiatives, all of which help people live better while searching for a cure to the number one cause of disability in the United States.

Angie was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis 50 years ago at age 3 ½ after she began complaining of pain when doing ordinary activities like grasping an item or walking. Soon multiple joints, and eventually all her joints, were affected. Back then, baby aspirin was the treatment, thus significant joint deformity occurred. Despite the limited range of motion and pain, she strove to do as many of the activities that others did. Through the years she attended school, college, moved out on her own, and became employed. She learned how to make accommodations in how and when she did something, depending on whether it was a good or bad day.

Angie feels privileged to be the 2022 National Walk to Cure Arthritis Adult Honoree and hopes her example inspires others with arthritis on their unique journeys.

The Walk to Cure Arthritis takes place in cities across the country, and is an important fundraising event to help conquer arthritis, which affects more than 58 million Americans, or roughly one in 4 adults. Contrary to popular belief, arthritis is not an “old person’s” disease. There are more than 100 different types of arthritis that affect people of all ages. In fact, two-thirds of people with arthritis are under the age of 65, including 300,000 children.
