Survivor of 9/11 World Trade Center Attack to Speak at Franklin College

Franklin College will host the third lecture in its 2021-22 Convocation Lecture Series on Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m. in the Branigin Room in the Napolitan Student Center. Michael Hingson, accompanied by his guide dog, Alamo, will present the lecture titled “Labrador Lessons from a Canine Hero.” Guests will be required to follow institutional COVID mitigation protocols.

Hingson will share and discuss the 10 lessons of “Guide Dog Wisdom” presented in his #1 New York Times best-selling book, “Thunder Dog,” sharing how we can apply these same lessons in our lives. He will use his story of survival and escape from the World Trade Center with his former guide dog, Roselle, on Sept. 11, 2001, as a backdrop to show how each of us can become a better team player and more open to the idea of trusting others.

Hingson will talk about trust, teamwork and life. Alamo, his five-year-old black Labrador retriever guide dog, travels the world with him. Hingson will share details about working with guide dogs and the many lessons he has learned from them.

Those interested in attending the event are asked to register at www.FranklinCollege.edu/convocation.

Hingson will be on campus for four days, lecturing in classrooms, conducting seminars and participating in informal discussions with students as a Council of Independent Colleges Visiting Fellow.

This lecture is generously underwritten by the Tillman Lecture Fund, established by 1970 Franklin College alumnus and Board of Trustees member Doug Tillman. The lecture is free and open to the public.
