TIMMY GLOBAL HEALTH TO HONOR DR. MERCY OBEIME AND THE MARION COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT
16TH Annual Gala scheduled for March 22, 2019

INDIANAPOLIS, February 22, 2019 - Indianapolis-based Timmy Global Health (Timmy) today announced its 2019 Humanitarian Award Honoree. Dr. Mercy Obeime and the Marion County Public Health Department will be honored at Timmy’s 16th Annual Gala, March 22, 2019 at the Biltwell Center. This event supports Timmy’s work in delivering the promise of healthy futures to 18,000+ patients in 4 countries.

Dr. Obeime is the Founder of the Mercy Foundation, a nonprofit healthcare organization that is now part of Timmy Global Health, and the Director of Community & Global Health at Franciscan Health. Dr. Obeime is committed to treating the whole person regardless of ability to pay and works to make healthcare services available to all people, at home and abroad. She is being honored this year for her local work in partnership with the Marion County Health Department, and for her global work with Timmy Global Health.

“Dr. Mercy’s tireless commitment to ensuring health care access for all, at home and abroad, is awe-inspiring. She cares deeply for every patient and person she encounters, and she demonstrates that care in every aspect of her work,” said Kristina Graff, Timmy’s Executive Director.

Dr. Obeime holds an array of roles in the Indianapolis area, across the U.S. and globally.

In addition to serving as Director of Community & Global Health at Franciscan Health, Dr. Obeime is the Medical Director of the Franciscan SYMPAQ Clinic and Community Health Education at the St. Francis Family Medicine Residency Program. She is Director of Medical Education at the Marion County Public Health Department, and Assistant Clinical Professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine and Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Obeime is on staff at Eskenazi Health, and consults at the Vitas Hospice Inpatient unit at the University of Miami.

After graduating from the University of Benin in Nigeria, Dr. Obeime helped establish a clinic for the uninsured which focused on caring for the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the patients. Her work continues through a partnership with Nigeria’s Bebor Model Nursery and Primary School, where she ensures students receive vaccinations, medicines and treatment. She is also a regular medical volunteer on Timmy Global Health medical service trips to Latin America, delivering care to hard-to-reach communities, and mentoring young doctors and medical students.

In prior recognition of her dedication and commitment to the inner–city residents of Indianapolis, Obeime was chosen as a National Winner of the 2003 Spirit of Women Awards in the Healthcare category. “It is very important to treat people with compassion and dignity,” she says “to listen and find out what it is they want. Along with all the technology of American medicine, there is a need for faith and values, especially with older people.”

Individual tickets and sponsorships are available. For more information, please visit timmyglobalhealth.org/get-involved/2019-gala/ for or contact Laura Limp at [email protected].
