Indy Chamber to Host Chicago International Trade Commissioners Association at Global Indy Event

INDIANAPOLIS, November 20, 2017 The Indy Chamber will host the Chicago International Trade Commissioners Association (CITCA) at a Global Indy luncheon on November 28th at City Hardware from 12:00 – 1:30 PM. As part of the Indy Chamber’s efforts to encourage local businesses to engage in international activity, the event will give companies the chance to engage with trade commissioners for global growth opportunities.

CITCA is a group of Trade Representatives representing the governments of nearly 40 countries. Based in Chicago, their jurisdiction is mostly for the Midwest Region of the United States. CITCA members seek to increase trade and investment between the Midwest and their countries by connecting companies, sharing information, organizing participation in trade shows, facilitating trade missions, and fostering academic partnerships, among other activities.

At the Global Indy luncheon, CITCA President Borys Mejia Aguirre will introduce CITCA, followed by a panel discussion with CITCA members on ways local organizations can engage with them to advance their international business.

“We are excited to bring CITCA to the Indy Region in such an accessible way for local businesses. As the convener for global business in the Indy region, we want to provide our local businesses with the tools and resources that they need to succeed in international markets,” says Maureen Donohue Krauss, Chief Economic Development Officer at the Indy Chamber.

This event is part of the Indy Chamber’s work to raise the nine-county metro’s international profile while increasing the region’s international business exchange, exports, and foreign direct investment. It stems from the chamber’s leadership of regional participation in the Global Cities Initiative (GCI). Indianapolis is one of 32 metros participating in GCI, which is a joint project of the Brookings Institution and JPMorgan Chase. It helps metropolitan leaders advance and grow their regional economies by strengthening international connections and competitiveness. The Indy Chamber is currently implementing the Metro Indianapolis Global Trade & Investment Strategy, which resulted from the Global Cities Initiative and fits within the region’s new comprehensive economic development blueprint, Accelerate Indy.

“Accelerate Indy aims to lift the regional economic focus from low cost to high value – and global commerce is a perfect fit for these efforts,” continues Krauss, “All businesses are encouraged to contact us when exploring international opportunities.”
