“By building the nation’s best business climate in Indiana, our state is attracting jobs from across the country,” said Governor Mike Pence. “By doing business in Indiana, companies like 84 Lumber are gaining the competitive advantage that comes with a skilled workforce, low taxes and stable business climate. We are proud to welcome 84 Lumber to the Hoosier state, where companies can grow and create new jobs with confidence.” The certified women’s business enterprise, which is named for its founding city of Eighty Four, Pennsylvania, will invest $5.59 million to purchase, renovate and equip the former Trussway facility at 1850 North Graham Road in Franklin. In the facility, which has been vacant since 2009, the company will manufacture wood roof trusses, floor trusses and wall panels. Renovations on the long-vacant, 84,000-square-foot facility will begin in January, with installation of the latest software, computerized saws, specialized jigging equipment and precision wall panel systems. The company, which currently employs more than 4,600 employees across all operations in the United States, plans to begin hiring in February for plant management and production associate positions. Interested applicants may apply online at the 84 Lumber career page. “Indiana is an important part of 84 Lumber’s continued growth and expansion,” said Maggie Hardy Magerko, president and owner of 84 Lumber. “The addition of the facility in Franklin will allow us to better service and provide materials to our builders in the region.” Founded in 1956 as a cash-and-carry lumber yard, 84 Lumber quickly expanded nationwide to serve professional contractors and do-it-yourselfers across the country. The company currently operates more than 250 stores across the nation. The 84 Components division, which is locating in Franklin, was founded in 1985 and operates five additional existing plants across the country. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) offered 84 Lumber Company up to $450,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company's job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Franklin will consider additional incentives at the request of the Johnson County Development Corporation. “The city of Franklin is extremely excited to welcome 84 Lumber to our community,” said Franklin Mayor Joe McGuinness. “We are fortunate to be chosen as the site for their next project. 84 Lumber is a well-known, highly respected brand and we look forward to helping them grow in Franklin.” 84 Lumber is the third Pennsylvania-based company in the last year to choose Indiana for its expansion plans. Today’s announcement follows news last year from auto lubricant manufacturer D-A Lubricant that it planned to relocate production of Brad Penn Lubricants from Bradford, Pennsylvania to Indiana, along with news from Carnegie, Pennsylvania-based Union Electric Steel that it also planned to expand its Indiana operations.
