O’Hara to Lead Indiana Public and Private Sectors in Promoting Security of State and National Critical Infrastructures

INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rook Security, a provider of global IT security solutions protecting sensitive data against dynamic, emerging threats,   is proud to announce that Brian O’Hara, Senior Security Advisor, has been named as the President of the Indiana InfraGard Members Alliance.

“With the attacks against critical infrastructure and key resources escalating in both frequency and sophistication, it is vital that public and private organizations coordinate to protect the services that matter the most”

O’Hara was named as the new President at the annual chapter convention held at the Indiana Government Center in Indianapolis on September 29, 2015. O’Hara had previously served as the chapter’s first Sector Chief Coordinator coordinating support for protecting the nation’s sixteen critical infrastructures. His replacement as Sector Chief for the state will be made at a later time.

“With the attacks against critical infrastructure and key resources escalating in both frequency and sophistication, it is vital that public and private organizations coordinate to protect the services that matter the most,” said Brian O’Hara, Sr. Security Advisor, Rook Security. “InfraGard’s mission is not only vital, but one that requires constant advancement, collaboration, and vigilance.”

Indiana InfraGard Members Alliance is part of a national members alliance. Each FBI Field Office has a Special Agent Coordinator who gathers interested individuals to form a chapter. Local executive boards govern and share information within the membership. The Indiana Chapter conducts regular meetings to discuss issues, threats and other matters that impact their public and private sector companies and infrastructure. Speakers from public and private agencies and the law enforcement communities are invited throughout the year to conduct lectures, training exercises, and workshops. The Indiana Chapter is dedicated to increasing the public and private knowledge base on business continuity management/recovery, disaster planning, incident management, and crisis management planning. InfraGard provides a secure website to its members with information about recent intrusions, research related to critical infrastructure protection, and the capability to communicate securely with other members.

O’Hara is an accomplished professional with over 20 years of experience in information security, audit, risk management, and executive advisory services. He is a published author and technical editor who currently serves as both CISO and VISO for Fortune 500 companies with global footprints. O’Hara was also instrumental in developing Indiana’s first NSA Center for Academic Excellence in Information Security.

About InfraGard

InfraGard is an information sharing and analysis effort serving the interests and combining the knowledge base of a wide range of members. At its most basic level, InfraGard is a partnership between the FBI and the private sector. InfraGard is an association of individuals, academic institutions, state and local law enforcement agencies, and other participants dedicated to sharing information and intelligence to prevent hostile acts against the United States. InfraGard Chapters are geographically linked with FBI Field Office territories. Each InfraGard Chapter has an FBI Special Agent Coordinator assigned to it, and the FBI Coordinator works closely with Supervisory Special Agent Program Managers in the Cyber Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

After September 11, 2001, protection of the physical and cyber infrastructure of the nation was the responsibility of the National Infrastructure Protection Center (NIPC). In March 2003, NIPC was transferred to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which now has responsibility for Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) matters. The FBI retained InfraGard as an FBI sponsored program, and will work with DHS in support of its CIP mission, facilitate InfraGard’s continuing role in CIP activities, and further develop InfraGard’s ability to support the FBI’s investigative mission, especially as it pertains to counterterrorism and cyber crimes. The goal of InfraGard is to promote ongoing dialogue and timely communication between members and the FBI. InfraGard members gain access to information that enables them to protect their assets and in turn give information to government that facilitates its responsibilities to prevent and address terrorism and other crimes.
