#WeAreIndy – Clear Software

Indy Chamber News Archives

The concept was simple for Jon Gilman. Business software like SAP and Oracle E-Business Suite was complicated to use, costing companies millions of dollars in lost productivity and complex training programs. Gilman’s solution to this problem was the creation of a web interface that makes business software user friendly.

“I came up with the idea during a training course I was teaching. I saw a woman using Facebook on our break. No one taught her how to comment or to like anything, she just knew because it is easy to use. I wanted to make business software just as easy. Simple and clean.” Out of this idea, Clear Software was born.

Being an Indy Chamber member, Gilman has access to networking opportunities that allow him to grow Clear Software. An Indianapolis location is also a huge draw for Gilman. “There is a burgeoning tech community in Indy that no one outside of Indy knows about yet. Access to venture capital and benevolent entrepreneurs like Mark Hill and Scott Dorsey who invest in the community are making it a place that people want to live and work.”

Gilman’s approach to business is admirable. “It’s usually not your products that are going to make the world a better place, it’s your investment in your people. Our goal is to build up communities and improve businesses for the people.” One of his favorite quotes is by Marc Benioff. “The business of business is improving the state of the world.”

With employees currently in 5 different states, Clear Software does not have a physical location yet in Indianapolis, but is working towards that goal. Gilman works out of zWORKS, a coworking space for entrepreneurs in Zionsville.
