INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 19, 2014) – CTL Engineering of Indiana, Inc., an engineering consulting and laboratory analytics firm, announced plans today to expand its operations here, creating up to 23 new jobs by 2020.

The Columbus, Ohio-based company will invest $799,000 to purchase and equip a new 15,000 square-foot facility in Indianapolis. The facility, which will be fully operational by April, will allow the company to increase productivity, capacity and efficiency for its geotechnical engineering, construction observation and testing, soils laboratory, marketing, business development and environmental operations.

“Strong, sustained growth originates from a solid foundation, and Indiana has a sturdy base with a sound infrastructure and low taxes for businesses to build upon,” said Eric Doden, president of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. “Companies like CTL know the value of building on a solid foundation and investing in the Hoosier State pays dividends both today and tomorrow.”

CTL, which has more than 250 full-time associates, is currently hiring for engineering, field personnel and support staff positions. Interested applicants may apply by calling 317.295.8650 or emailing a resume to [email protected].

“CTL chose to include central Indiana in its expansion plans primarily for its outstanding business environment including contracting opportunities, outstanding workforce availability and centralized geographic location,” said Steve Chastain, business development manager at CTL Engineering of Indiana. “CTL’s acquisition of this new facility provides a key step forward in expanding our Indiana operations. Exciting projects in Indiana such as the new I-69 expansion from Indianapolis to Evansville as well as the Deep Rock Tunnel Connector Project for Citizens Energy Group in Indianapolis have been instrumental to our growth. CTL is committed to investing in the local community both short-term and long-term.”

Founded in 1927 as Columbus Testing Laboratory, CTL provides services in geotechnical engineering, environmental services, observation and testing of construction materials and processes, mechanical and metallurgical analysis, non-destructive evaluations, chemical analysis, roofing design and inspection, pavement design and structural steel and product testing. An employee-owned business with locations in Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia and India, the company primarily serves customers across the Mid-Atlantic and Midwestern states.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered CTL Engineering of Indiana, Inc. up to $185,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $24,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Indianapolis will consider additional incentives at the request of Develop Indy, a business unit of the Indy Chamber.

CTL is the second company this week to announce plans to grow in Indianapolis. Yesterday association management firm Raybourn Group International announced it will invest $326,000 to add 4,000 square feet to its current facility, creating up to 35 new jobs in the coming years.

About CTL
CTL Engineering is a full service consulting engineering, testing, inspection and analytical services company. Formerly known as Columbus Testing Laboratory, the company was established in 1927 as a privately held independent engineering and testing laboratory serving the local community. During its early years, the company focused mainly on soils, foundation engineering, and construction testing and inspection services. The successes, experience, equipment, and expertise gained in these areas led to a natural expansion into the metallurgical, non-destructive testing, mechanical, mining, roofing, and environmental service industries.

Initially, CTL Engineering’s client base was mostly limited to Columbus, Ohio and its surrounding communities, but has grown significantly since. Today, CTL Engineering regularly performs services not only throughout Ohio, but also in all of the Mid-Atlantic and Midwestern states including Indiana and West Virginia. In addition to our corporate headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, we have expanded our service centers to include eight other regional offices. CTL Engineering became an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) Company in 1991. It has recently been awarded Encouraging Diversity Growth & Equity (EDGE) status by the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, as well as Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) status by the city of Indianapolis, Indiana, Indiana Department of Administration,  the South Central and Northern Ohio Minority Business Council, affiliates of National Minority Supplier Development Council (MNSDC).

About IEDC
Created in 2005 to replace the former Department of Commerce, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation is governed by a 12-member board chaired by Governor Mike Pence. Victor Smith serves as the Indiana Secretary of Commerce and Eric Doden is the president of the IEDC.

The IEDC oversees programs enacted by the General Assembly including tax credits, workforce training grants and public infrastructure assistance. All tax credits are performance-based. Therefore, companies must first invest in Indiana through job creation or capital investment before incentives are paid. A company who does not meet its full projections only receives a percentage of the incentives proportional to its actual investment. For more information about IEDC, visit www.iedc.in.gov.
