Creating Space, Attracting Talen

Downtown property tour sheds light on development opportunities

Indianapolis is a growing, vibrant city with a strong history of manufacturing, life sciences, and logistics sectors amongst budding industries in digital technology and clean energy. Throughout the city, real estate opportunities for manufacturing, mixed-use, and office space are available for development.

As a way to shed light on these properties, Develop Indy, a business unit of the Indy Chamber, joined the City of Indianapolis, Indianapolis Downtown Inc. and representatives from Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) in hosting a small group tour of downtown properties available for redevelopment. This tour, held Oct. 17, gave city leaders the chance to show property brokers and developers some of the county’s most prime real estate for development and work through some common barriers in the development process, including permitting, zoning and more.

“We focus much of our attention on making Indianapolis the most attractive place to do business,” said Brian Gildea, Executive Director of Develop Indy. “In helping developers understand the opportunities available to them and making the process easier for business, we are ultimately building better neighborhoods and making Indianapolis even more attractive to quality businesses and top talent.”

While dates for future tours have not been set, the 2014 calendar will bring more opportunities to continue this important education and dialog among developers, brokers, community activists, and non-profits interested in commercial redevelopment.
