PTO / Workplace Safety

Federal Requirements

  • The Biden administration will require (through OSHA) all employers with more than 100 employees to provide PTO for workers to get vaccinated or to recover if they are under the weather post-vaccination. This requirement will be implemented through the ETS.

Hourly workers

  • Without the ability to take paid time off to get the vaccine or recover from side effects, workers struggle to make vaccination work.
  • Vaccination rates can increase when employers support and facilitate access to the vaccine (e.g. incentives, paid time off, on-site clinics).
  • Allow employees paid time off to get the vaccine, recover from side-effects in the 24 hours post-vaccine, and help their family members get vaccinated.

Front Line Workers

  • Nearly 20% of workers say they haven’t gotten vaccinated because they’re afraid of missing work or are too busy. That number jumps to 26% for Black workers and 40% for Hispanic workers.
  • Employers can help increase vaccinations by offering paid time off to ensure employees and their loved ones can get vaccinated.

Benefits:

Safety:

  • The CDC is recommending continued masking and social distancing, even for those who are fully vaccinated, in areas where the Delta variant has high transmission – this includes Central Indiana.
