Resolve to be Part of Indiana’s Growing Economy

With a New Year comes a renewed energy to finally shed those extra pounds or, maybe, to become more organized. But what about making 2015 the year for either focusing on your own career or on the careers of your employees – or both?

We are starting 2015 with a call to action and challenging Central Indiana residents to reinvigorate their job search and evaluate their career plans while also calling for businesses to review their talent development goals.  We want businesses to know we can help them find the right talent to meet their needs today as well as their growing demand.

Why now? Because we have the need today to prepare talent for an evolving economy, one that is being fueled by technically skilled talent. In Central Indiana alone, we predict 51,500 net new jobs in technical-oriented positions across hundreds of different occupations by 2025. These jobs overwhelmingly require credentialed training or an associate or bachelors degree in industries such as advanced manufacturing, life sciences and information technology.

So, here we offer New Year resolutions that will benefit our growing economy and put residents into rewarding careers and position companies for continued growth:

Resolution #1: Take advantage of free resources focused on preparing technical talent. PowerTrain Indy, a free job training program for Marion County businesses and residents is a great example.  Qualifying businesses can take advantage of wage reimbursement incentives while developing a customized workforce and helping Indianapolis residents earn credentialed skills and employment with growth potential.

Or, starting in the spring of 2015, Employ Up will offer training opportunities for technical positions in healthcare and information technology that are often filled by H-1B workers.

EmployIndy Business Solutions serves as the access point for employers interested in capitalizing on the developing workforce.

Resolution #2: Constantly network and recruit. Take advantage of any opportunity to network – to keep your name top-of-mind as a potential employee and to advertise your business needs to skilled talent.  If you are interested in networking without an aggressive employment opportunity angle, the Indy Chamber hosts “Business After Hours.” These events are ideal to meet and communicate with area professionals in a far less formal setting.

Resolution #3: Develop a game plan, and enlist the resources to help you meet your goals.  Employers should also develop a similar plan for how they will address hiring issues in the future.  As industries evolve, how will talent needs change? The Business Solutions team at EmployIndy engages with employers to examine specific talent needs now and can offer data and solutions to help develop talent that will be needed in the future.  The new Recruitment team can help source, screen and interview candidates to streamline the hiring process and save money.  Ultimately, a competitive workforce is what keeps a business profitable, and continuing to drive the growth of an organization is crucial to lasting success.

With 2015 upon us, make the resolution for a New Year and New You.
