For years, Hoosier businesses have expressed the need for more direct flight options out of Indianapolis. State and local officials were listening and now, beginning January 8, two daily flights operate nonstop to Los Angeles and daily nonstop service to San Francisco. The IND to SFO nonstop is United flight 500 and departs daily at 8:00 am Eastern. The SFO to IND nonstop is United flight 317 and departs daily at 1:35 pm Pacific. The flight numbers weren’t an accident (Indy 500 and 317 area code).
IND has a regional economic impact. By creating nearly 20,000 jobs, representing $1.4 billion in wages, growth in the airport’s flight schedule means more opportunity for the region. As these nonstop flight schedules continue to gain momentum, Indy’s own buzzing tech community will begin to see more opportunities for innovation, funding, and collaboration with Silicon Valley. And as more non-stop destinations are added to IND’s schedule, the Indy region should see an increase in both tourist and convention traffic as convention planners who previously moved away from Indy because of airport accessibility will begin to take advantage of our state of the art convention center and walkable downtown.
