WGU Indiana Announces Multiple Scholarships for Educators During National Teacher Appreciation Week 2023

INDIANAPOLIS – In honor of National Teacher Appreciation Week 2023 (May 8-12), WGU Indiana is offering two scholarships for current and future education professionals who wish to pursue bachelor’s or master’s degree programs in WGU’s School of Education, the largest nonprofit, accredited school of education in the country.

The newest education scholarship program is designed to support the growth of our teacher workforce. The Education Support Professionals Scholarship program, worth up to $5,000, is for Paraprofessionals who are currently working in Indiana district’s schools and are dedicated to becoming a teacher and making a positive impact in students’ lives. Paraprofessionals provide additional support in the classroom, often helping students who need more one-on-one support, are in special education, or have behavioral challenges. The scholarship can be applied toward any of WGU’s School of Education degree programs leading to teacher licensure. This scholarship is needs-based and is not restricted to academic achievement, making it a valuable opportunity for Paraprofessionals to pursue their teaching degrees and become licensed teachers in any of the 50 states (a feature unique to only WGU).

In addition, the university offers its WGU Loves Teachers Scholarship, which is valued up to $4,000 and designed to help current teachers improve their skill set in the classroom, move into administration, or to assist aspiring teachers in obtaining the required credentials for a rewarding future career as an educator. Scholarships will be awarded based on a candidate’s academic record, financial need, readiness for online study at WGU, current competency and other considerations.

“Earning a degree is a great accomplishment many hope to pursue and earn, but sometimes the cost of a degree can be the primary barrier that prevents individuals from reaching their educational and career goals,” said Alison Bell, WGU Indiana Chancellor and Regional Vice President. “We are excited to bring the WGU Loves Teachers Scholarship back this year and launch the additional scholarship opportunity for paraprofessionals in education. With many states still experiencing teaching shortages, I see these scholarships as a means to help our aspiring teachers skill-up through affordable, flexible higher education, so that they are also encouraged to stay in the school system.”

Scholarship applications for the Education Support Professionals Scholarship and WGU Loves Teachers Scholarship are available online. Deadline to apply is June 30, 2023

WGU Indiana offers more than 60 accredited bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in business, information technology, K–12 education, and health professions, including nursing, and is open to all qualified Indiana residents.
