The International Center Announces 50th Anniversary Projects

The International Center has announced projects and events celebrating its 50th anniversary. The international affairs nonprofit based in Indianapolis was established on March 6th, 1973.

Until the end of 2023, The International Center will celebrate its golden anniversary with community collaborations and projects, including:

50 for 50 (presented by Innovative) a series of fifty vignettes that feature individuals, groups, and organizations that have helped the Hoosier state become the global hub it is today

Global Leaders’ Lounges — quarterly networking sessions held at historically significant venues

Global Heritage Society — a fellowship for planned giving donors and legacy gifts to The Center

Special International Citizen of the Year event — to be announced in early 2023

Art installation at Indianapolis International Airport with Herron School of Art + Design — to be permanently displayed in the terminal of the award-winning Indianapolis airport

The 50th anniversary celebration will launch on Wednesday, October 26th with the publication of a 50 for 50 piece on Richard Lugar in honor of his role in the 1971 International Conference on Cities – the event that served as an impetus for the eventual creation of The Center.

More details, including event dates and installation specifics, will come in early 2023.

“Though it’s a celebration of our fifty years as an organization, we’re also celebrating half a century of a global focus in Indiana,” said Martin Baier, president and CEO of The International Center. “We hope this anniversary jubilee invites the community to see Indiana’s success as a global state – and join us to answer the call for what’s to come in the next fifty years.”
