Families First (www.FamiliesFirstIndiana.org), the oldest non-sectarian not-for-profit in Indiana, established in 1835. We help nearly 30,000 people in our community each year through challenges that are tough to face alone – grief, abuse, substance use, and domestic violence to name a few. This support helps prevent future crises and builds a more hopeful, healthy, and resilient community, one family at a time. Children raised in households that are safe and healthy can grow up to fulfill their potential!
Salute to Families breakfast is the annual event that raises indispensable funds to fulfill our mission. Over the years, the event has brought in national speakers, local public figures, and has been emceed by prominent news media personnel. Now in its 24th year, the event will look different. Due to the pandemic, we’re pivoting from a breakfast to a two-week virtual campaign kicked off via a Facebook Premiere video on September 24 at 9am that will appear to viewers as a program – much like we would do on stage during the breakfast.
The remainder of the campaign will focus on using social media posts and ads, as well as peer-to-peer fundraisers, to raise critical funds to serve the mental health needs of Central Indiana residents going through challenging times.
Families First has continued to serve throughout this pandemic. Pivoting from a face-to-face business model to a virtual model in under 2-weeks, we’ve continued to provide essential services to clients in the areas of: parent education (for parents with open cases in Dept. of Child Services which helps to reunite families and prevent child abuse); counseling and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence (which has increased during the pandemic), assault, and sexual assault; crisis and suicide hotline; substance use outpatient services; and general counseling.
Companies can join the cause and are encouraged to share their involvement with employees. Employees can volunteer as peer-to-peer fundraisers – we provide a toolkit giving employees access to software to create their own fundraising campaign which they can then share with friends and family via email or social media. Make it a challenge and get department teams involved! For companies who have returned to the workplace, ‘watch parties’ can be a fun way to gather employees together for good to watch the Facebook Premiere on 9/24 at 9am.
