Norris Cunningham, a co-founding shareholder of Katz Korin Cunningham, was recognized as the Defense Lawyer of the Year by the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana (DTCI) during their annual meeting in French Lick, Ind.
According to the DTCI, “The Defense Lawyer of the Year award is presented to a licensed lawyer who, in the opinion of the Awards Committee, as approved by the Board of Directors, has promoted the interests of the Indiana defense bar, since the last annual meeting of the DTCI, in a most significant way in the fields of litigation, legislation, publication or participation in local, state or national defense organizations.”
Norris leads Katz Korin Cunningham’s Health Care practice group and serves as Chair of the firm’s Recruitment and Diversity, Attorney Succession Planning, and Social Justice Outreach and Advocacy committees. He is also a member of the Executive Committee. Among the numerous out-of-office committees Norris serves on, he has been named Vice-Chair of the Indiana Supreme Court — Indiana Commission on Equity and Access in the Court System.
Of Norris’ recognition, Michael Gabovitch, Managing Partner, says “When Norris and his team of attorneys and legal professionals joined our firm in June of 2017, we knew it was the beginning of something special. It comes as no surprise to us that Norris is being recognized for his work as ‘Defense Lawyer of the Year’ by DTCI. While we are thrilled for Norris to receive this honor, we are equally proud of everything else that Norris brings to the firm — his thoughtful leadership, his valuable mentoring of our young lawyers, and his intense passion for community service as seen through his creation of our firm’s partnership with Arsenal Technical High School — all of which shows that he is much more than an excellent attorney.”
One of Norris’ clients was quoted during the award presentation saying, “Norris goes above and beyond to assist his clients promptly and professionally. Norris is a master storyteller and though he has a commanding presence, he can connect with everyone on a sincere level which contributes to his success in and out of the courtroom. We are grateful for Norris and his advocacy on behalf of our company and the long term care industry.”
Defense Lawyer of the Year is just one of many awards that Norris has received over the past few years, including U.S. News Best Lawyers in America for 2022 in the areas of: Litigation – Health Care, Health Care Law and Arbitration. He has received the Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rating annually since 2019, and both the National Black Lawyers Top 100 and Super Lawyers annually since 2018. Additionally, Norris was recognized with the “Distinguished Barrister” award in 2019 at the Indiana Lawyer’s “Leadership in Law” awards.
