Take a dive into the rich cultural tradition of American musical composition with WFYI and the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra (ICO) on Thanksgiving at 8PM. Funded by CICF, “What Makes Music American” features the classical traditions, inspirations, and motivations of American composition. The program highlights everything from Jazz and Patriotic songs, to folk, ragtime, ballet and popular song. The hosts of the program Matthew Kraemer, ICO Music Director, and Joshua Thompson, music sociologist and pianist, provide insights into the uniquely American characteristics and themes throughout the one-hour concert.
Educators throughout the state can request access to “What Makes Music American,” other ICO education programs, and their accompanying classroom curriculum and activities here. To learn more about the ICO, including their 2021-2022 season, visit icomusic.org.
