Franklin College will host a variety of activities honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King on Monday, Jan. 17, 2022. The following events are free and open to the public. Guests will be required to comply with institutional COVID restrictions in effect at the time.
2 p.m. – Chapel Service – Richardson Chapel. Join us for an ecumenical Christian worship service that honors the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy as a minister. This service will be led by Rev. Dr. Hannah Adams Ingram, chaplain of the college, and will feature guest preacher Rev. Ayanna Garrett, associate dean for student life at Christian Theological Seminary.
4 p.m. – Convocation Lecture – Branigin Room, Napolitan Student Center. “Modern-Day Application to the Mission and Legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” – Lecturer Dr. Shaun Harper: Harper teaches at the University of Southern California in the Marshall School of Business and advises CEOs and leaders on diversity, equity and inclusion strategy. Harper has worked with more than 400 businesses, firms and educational institutions during his career, has published 12 books and more than 100 academic publications. His research has been cited in over 16,000 published studies. The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and hundreds of other news outlets have quoted Harper and featured his research. He has been interviewed on CNN, ESPN, NBC News and NPR.
