The attorneys and staff of the law firm Cantrell & Mehringer joined the law firm of Katz Korin Cunningham effective April 1, 2020. Dennis Cantrell and Susan Mehringer see this as an excellent opportunity to combine the skills and expertise of two of Indianapolis’ most highly regarded law firms.
“In addition to its depth and breadth of practice areas, Katz Korin Cunningham shares the same values and vision as we do at Cantrell & Mehringer, making it the perfect fit.” said Dennis Cantrell, Managing Partner of Katz Korin Cunningham. Attorneys Dennis Cantrell, Susan Mehringer and Kathryn Watson, together with paralegal Dawn Edmondson and the firm’s legal assistants, moved to the historic Emelie Building at 334 N. Senate which houses the 31 attorneys of Katz Korin Cunningham and its staff, bringing the total number of attorneys at Katz Korin Cunningham to 34. The Emelie Building, built in 1902, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is currently undergoing a top-to-bottom renovation, allowing space for additional attorneys and staff in an updated environment.
This transition has been unique given the current pandemic. Both Cantrell & Mehringer and Katz Korin Cunningham moved to a temporary work-from-home model the week of March 16th, operating with a skeletal staff in the office to maintain certain day-to-day functions. According to Katz Korin Cunningham Managing Partner Michael Gabovitch “Onboarding an entire firm during a pandemic presents unique challenges — from conducting systems training online to the introduction of new personnel via Zoom® to remotely onboarding hundreds of new client matters. I could not be more impressed with the efforts of the teams from both firms to create a successful outcome.”
The attorneys and staff of Katz Korin Cunningham will be implementing a phased return to office when deemed appropriate. “Today’s technology provides easy access to everything we need to continue to serve our clients including virtual meeting tools. However, we are looking forward to being back together as we return to the office” said Dennis Cantrell. “It’s interesting to think about the fact that we have yet to meet most of the Katz Korin Cunningham team other than through virtual coffee breaks.” Susan Mehringer echoed Dennis’ thoughts adding “we had no idea when we began talking about joining Katz Korin Cunningham that our timeline was going to fall on the front of a pandemic, but we certainly weren’t about to put everything on hold. We are all really impressed with how everyone from both firms came together during this unprecedented time to make everything work.”
Both Dennis Cantrell and Susan Mehringer are shareholders with Katz Korin Cunningham, and Kathryn Watson is of counsel. They are all members of the business litigation practice group led by Offer Korin.
Katz Korin Cunningham was selected for the 2019 and 2020 “Best Law Firms” rankings by U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers. Firms included in “Best Law Firms” are recognized for professional excellence with consistently impressive ratings from clients and peers.
