Art “start-ups” exhibiting at 50th OneAmerica Broad Ripple Art Fair

New artists will have the opportunity to exhibit and sell their works alongside their more established peers in the return of the Emerging Artists Area at the 50th OneAmerica Broad Ripple Art Fair.

“We decided to bring back the Emerging Artists area to showcase the work of some of our most outstanding Art Center students, as well as a few from Herron School of Art and Marian University,” said Mark Williams, president of the Indianapolis Art Center.

Students whose work was juried into this area include Indy residents Margaret Durbin (painting), Seronia Harris (jewelry), Nova Harmon (ceramics) Katie Piccone (ceramics), Sandy Toledo Marquette (jewelry) and Frankie Viglietta (glass). Featured emerging artists from outside Indianapolis will include Polly Brown of Avon (ceramics), Anna Davlin of Zionsville (painting), Emma Jackson of Fishers (ceramics), Lydia Johns of Carmel (drawing) and Jackie Espinosa Moyotl of Fishers (printmaking).

The OneAmerica Broad Ripple Art Fair returns May 14 and 15 after a two-year pandemic-driven hiatus. It will feature 150 artists from across the U.S. who were juried into the fair. Only a fraction of those who apply are chosen to showcase and sell their work in mediums that include painting, drawing, ceramics, jewelry, textiles and much more.

Musical entertainment will include local stars Rob Dixon, Pavel Polanco Safadit, Bahiri Asad, The Doo Band, The Blue Side and Living Proof, all curated by Indy Jazz Fest.

Income from the event supports Indianapolis Art Center’s hundreds of classes and camps, more than a dozen contemporary art exhibitions that are free and open to the public, an outreach program called ArtReach that takes youth and teen art classes into underserved communities, and ArtTroop for veterans and active-duty military.
