In 2016, stakeholders in the River West neighborhood had a vision of bringing a positive event to the area. Out of these conversations was born an idea – create a community basketball tournament that would both engage all age groups and generate profits to benefit neighborhood charities.

This vision is now a reality, thanks to the work of Near West 21 and Kinney Group, with the formation of the Gus Macker River West Classic 3-on-3 basketball tournament. This year’s event will take place on courts centered around the intersection of West Michigan St. and King Ave. on August 17th and 18th.

For over 40 years, the Gus Macker organization has hosted tournaments for players of all ages and skill level, partnering with community organizations to provide fun, family-oriented programming while also raising money for local nonprofits. In addition to sponsoring low-income neighborhood youth teams through financial backing from local businesses, the tournament will equally distribute all profits among three charities servicing the near west side.

We are inviting all Hoosiers to register yourselves, your families, and your friends to come participate in one of Indy’s biggest summer sporting events and to support the River West neighborhood and our official beneficiaries: Gleaner’s Food Bank, Christamore House, and Indianapolis Public Library.
