Nonstop Frontier flight to Cancun begins in December
INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 10, 2019) – Frontier Airlines announced today it will add an Indy-to-Cancun international flight twice per week starting in December 2019. This marks the first ultra-low-cost carrier to offer a nonstop international flight out of the Indianapolis International Airport (IND).
“Today’s Frontier announcement adds to the growing number of flights it is offering out of Indianapolis, and makes it the first of its class to offer an international destination,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. “This new flight is further proof that airlines see the Indianapolis community as a place worthy of investment for growth — in partnership with the best airport in North America.”
The seasonal flight will take off on Mondays and Fridays, adding Cancun to Frontier’s growing list of nonstop flights out of Indy. To date, that list includes nonstop flights to Denver, Orlando, Ft. Myers and Las Vegas.
Frontier joins Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Air Canada as carriers offering nonstop international flights out of the Indy airport. Both Southwest and Delta have a seasonal nonstop flight to Cancun that runs once a week on Saturdays. Delta offers year-round nonstop flights to Paris. Air Canada offers year-round nonstop flights to Toronto.
Other ultra-low-cost carriers flying out of Indy airport include Allegiant Air and Spirit Airlines. Just last month, Allegiant announced two new nonstop flights from Indy to West Palm Beach and Tucson. Spirit is the newest airline to fly out of the Indy airport, launching at the beginning of this year. Spirit currently serves Las Vegas, Orlando and Myrtle Beach, and will launch service to Tampa and Ft. Myers in November.
IND serves more than 9 million business and leisure travelers each year, averaging 145 daily flights – seasonally and year-round – to 50 nonstop destinations.
