Vice President of Membership

The VP of Membership leads the Indy Chamber’s efforts to make the Indy region the best place in the nation to start and grow a business. The VP of membership is accountable for Indy Chamber membership sales and retention, both total revenue and numeric goals. The VP of Membership contributes to the success of   the Chamber by maximizing value delivery to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), developing new bottom-line-enhancing business benefits, growing membership revenue through new membership sales, and retaining current members. 

Requirements

  • Lead sales and marketing efforts targeted at SMBs in the Indy region, with the mission of making Indy the best place in the nation to start and grow a business.
  • Lead efforts to enhance the value proposition of Indy Chamber membership by elevating existing benefits and developing new bottom-line-enhancing benefits for members. 
  • Lead efforts to realize efficiencies, automate functions, maximize benefit utilization by members, streamline renewal processes, and optimize member retention. 
  • Manage, coach, and provide timely, accurate, and consistent feedback across the team to drive growth and engagement.
  • Inspire, encourage, support, and hold all team members accountable for achieving sales and marketing goals.
  • Demonstrate exceptional people skills, exhibiting strong verbal and written communication tailored to diverse audiences, including business owners, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers.
  • Consistently implement and refine weekly/monthly sales management processes to optimize lead generation and client acquisition.
  • Maintain team proficiency levels in sales and customer experience methodologies, while integrating innovative marketing strategies to expand their reach.
  • Develop and oversee viable, uniform team compensation plans that incentivize sales performance and business development.
  • Review, approve, and submit monthly commission and expense reports efficiently.
  • Provide timely and comprehensive reporting on sales, marketing efforts, and business impact.
  • Encourage and inspect the identification, research, call preparation, and meetings with targeted accounts in the Indy region, specifically focusing on SMBs.
  • Partner with internal leaders to optimize CRM utilization to track lead conversions and marketing effectiveness.
  • Personally champion relationships, directing the CEO and Leadership Team on strategic follow-ups and business engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the CEO, Executive Team, key staff, and volunteer leadership to identify and pursue new business targets (referrals).
  • Work closely with MARCOMM and the CEO to enhance and facilitate regular communications, ensuring the visibility of sales and marketing initiatives.
  • Actively participates in Indy Chamber events and programs to connect with the SMB community and foster engagement.
  • Represent the organization in community leadership events to elevate brand awareness and strengthen business relationship.
  • Encourage and inspect team members’ professional development to sharpen skills in sales, marketing, and business growth strategies through training, certifications, and programs.

  • Leads and encourages collaboration across departments and partnerships.
  • Able to prioritize, organize tasks and time, and follow up.
  • Understands and embraces technology.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the Greater Indianapolis area, significant companies, and individuals of influence and leadership.
  • Leads and manages a never-ending curiosity for the work of the Indy Chamber with an unnatural passion for continuous learning. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 years’ combined sales and sales management experience preferred, with a focus on SMB engagement.
  • Proven experience meeting with C-level executives and guiding strategic business decisions.
  • Product development and company growth experience are strongly desired. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills tailored to entrepreneurs and business leaders.
  • Proficiency in technology, including MS Office, Salesforce, Sales Enablement platforms, and collaboration tools.
  • Certified sales training (preferred), with a strong understanding of SMB-specific selling techniques.
  • Negotiation training (preferred), particularly in contracts and partnerships relevant to small and medium-sized businesses.
