Director of Lending and Coaching

The Director of Lending and Coaching oversees the operation of the lending process, including pre-and post-loan coaching, compliance, products, underwriting, and portfolio management within Business Ownership Initiative (BOI), a division of the Indy Chamber’s Entrepreneur Services. Responsibilities include systems and process improvement, quality, monitoring, and improvement of BOI’s coaching and training.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Monitors and manages the BOI loan portfolio to ensure quality control, efficiency, and effectiveness of loan products and processes and ensures paper and electronic loan file integrity
  • Ensures the SBA Microloan program maintains compliance and reporting in accordance with SBA guidelines
  • Oversees the loan application process, including verifying Business Loan Coaches produce complete loan application packages in compliance with BOI Loan Procedures
  • Oversees daily activity of loan portfolio management, including the production of loan closing documents, closing loans, monitoring of loans and collection efforts, monthly loan payment processing, preparing monthly and annually required statements, accurately reporting payments received and reporting transactions to the Credit Bureau Alliance (CBA)
  • Manages the loan underwriting process to ensure compliance and quality of risk rating criteria in accordance with industry best practices
  • Prepares and maintains loan portfolio reports, including loan fund balances, portfolio delinquency, industry and demographic reports, etc.
  • Coordinates legal actions regarding delinquency and collection activities with outside general counsel
  • Communicate with the finance department regularly to ensure accuracy of all loan fund activity and resolve any accounting issues and discrepancies
  • Perform semi-annual reviews for all direct reports and provide feedback as necessary
  • Elevate BOI’s brand as a lender of choice for small businesses and establish BOI’s coaching niche on cash flow and cash management.
  • Grow and launch small businesses through deployment of quality technical assistance, training, and microloans.
  • Ensure consistency, improvement, and expansion of BOI’s coaching/training services in alignment with BOI’s mission

Preferred Qualifications

Undergraduate degree and 3-5 years related work experience; preferably bank, CDFI, or other lending institution required. Preferred majors include business, finance, marketing, accounting, communications, or management. A graduate degree is a plus.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government grant Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Understanding of grant reporting requirements and legal issues related to loan compliance.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products with advanced Excel software skills (use of financial, statistical, and logical functions).
  • Demonstrated interest in community economic development and the mission, vision, and values of Business Ownership Initiative.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with the Greater Indianapolis area and its small business climate.
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office environment or other business-type setting. Work is often conducted before, during, and after traditional business hours, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
