Accelerate Talent

Our peer markets are better equipping their talent, whether it is a career in key innovation industries* or Good and Promising Jobs**. While attracting talent, our region needs a strategy to support all people as they pursue the necessary education, training, certifications, and experience needed to succeed in our workforce.

*Key innovation industries include advanced manufacturing, agbiosciences, life sciences, logistics, information technology, and sports.

**From the 2018 Brooking Advancing Opportunity in Central Indiana Report—Good jobs provide middle-class wages and benefits. Promise jobs are entry-level jobs that, while they do not provide the pay or benefits of a good job, enable the workers who hold them to reach a good job within ten years.

Strategic Objectives

  • Talent attraction from outside the region to fill current workforce gaps.
  • Business commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Efforts to increase graduate retention from Indiana colleges and universities.
  • Ensure all residents are connected to resources to participate in the modern economy.
  • Partnerships that enhance education and training for Good and Promising Jobs.

Key Recommendation

Leveraging labor marketing research and analysis, the Indy Chamber proposes a targeted marketing spend in areas of high concentration of needed talent to fill regional skill gaps. Life In Indy’s Indyfluencer network of local ambassadors will participate in one-on-one connections with prospective residents, and based on information derived from those interactions and further digital engagement, prospects will be connected to local resources and/or employers in an effort to convert them to new residents.
