Mayor's Celebration of Diversity Awards

Deadline for nominations is February 3, 2017 

INDIANAPOLIS — The Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee (GIPC) is now accepting nominations for the 16th Annual Mayor’s Celebration of Diversity Awards. The awards will be presented to businesses and organizations throughout Marion County that embrace, celebrate, and apply holistic inclusion and participation of a diverse people, making the workplace a better environment in which to work and the community a better place to live, work, and raise a family. This year’s awards luncheon will support ProjectIndy, Mayor Joe Hogsett’s summer youth employment initiative. 

Recognition will be given for outstanding performance in each of the following categories: 

Leadership: Leads with vision to develop and support diversity strategies that result in diversity at the top of the organization; 

Workforce Diversity: Strives to improve diversity at all levels of the organization; 

Sam H. Jones “Best of the Best”: Named in honor of the Indianapolis Urban League’s first president, who was a tireless advocate for peace, justice, and racial understanding, this award recognizes exemplary performance in all aspects of diversity.

Winners will be recognized at the 16th Annual Celebration of Diversity Awards Luncheon that will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017 at the Downtown Marriott Indianapolis, 350 W. Maryland Street, Indianapolis. 

GIPC is pleased to present this event in support of ProjectIndy, Mayor Hogsett’s summer youth employment initiative. ProjectIndy began in 2016, uniting a network of providers from across the private and non-profit sectors to connect high school juniors and seniors with job opportunities, soft-skill development, and job-readiness training. Having employed 1000 Indianapolis teens in its first year, the goal for Summer 2017 is to match 2000 high school students with meaningful summer employment.
