Making a Difference with Endangered Species

Indy Chamber News Archives

In the wake of the senseless killing of Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe, one Indiana-based business is making a difference for endangered species.

iLAB, a global independent software quality assurance and testing company, has it’s US operations headquartered here in Indianapolis and along with other businesses in its global group – groupelephant.com – iLAB is moving Beyond Corporate Purpose.

The group’s not-for-profit investment areas are the preservation of elephants and rhinos, and alleviating poverty among rural people.  The groupelephant.com economic model is built upon creating wildlife and ecotourism economies through private-community partnerships.  In particular to the United States, groupelephant.com is working with the South African government and the Texas-based Exotic Wildlife Association on an ambitious plan to relocate threatened white rhinos from danger zones in South Africa to South Texas.  Known as the Rhino1000 plan, the simple notion is that “if we cannot take the danger away from the rhinos, then we need to take the rhinos away from the danger”.

The not-for-profit efforts of groupelephant.com are fiscally sponsored projects of the US 501(c)(3) organization Lift Up Africa.  Tax deductible donations can be made here.
