Indy Chamber members invited to special July 15 celebration

The Indy Chamber and The Columbia Club share a long and prosperous history together. Described in If Tables Could Talk by Marjie Gates Giffin, “Statistically speaking, the Hoosier capitol at the turn of the 20th century was, according to Leary’s Indianapolis, “a metropolis of some 20 square miles with 35,000 homes, businesses, and factories, 175 churches, 500 grocery stores, a city budget nudging the million-dollar mark, and a bonded indebtedness already well over that figure.”

“Against this pulsating backdrop of life and progress, it was fitting that fraternal circles should also hope to expand. In 1890, Columbian William Fortune, an Indianapolis News editorial writer with progressive leanings, along with Col. Eli Lilly and 26 area business men organized the Indianapolis Commercial Club, erecting an eight-story stone front building at the southwest corner of Meridian and Pearl streets. Forerunner of the city’s Chamber of Commerce, the early Commercial Club promoted a crucial street paving project, and updated city charter, sewage and park systems, railroad track elevation, convention business, and increased local industry.”

Indy Chamber members are invited to a celebration at The Columbia Club Wednesday July 15, 2015 at 5:30pm. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and drinks, tour the historic clubhouse, learn more about the Indy Chamber membership discount program, and experience the Club’s “home away from home” privileges and services.

Please RSVP to [email protected]by July 13.

*Membership Dues discount good for one year, available to all active Indy Chamber members and their company’s staff who submit a completed membership application to Audrey Hughey by Friday July 24, 2015, subject to acceptance by The Columbia Club.
