When you enter the adoption lobby of the Humane Society of Indianapolis, you’ll find this inscription: “Dedicated to the homeless and unwanted animals who find themselves at the Humane Society of Indianapolis. We promise…you are safe here.” And, this is a promise staff do not take lightly.

The Humane Society of Indianapolis’ vision is that all Central Indiana animals are treated with dignity and respect and live free from cruelty, harm, and neglect. Serving Indianapolis and the surrounding counties since 1905, IndyHumane provides vital services to animals and people alike through sheltering and adopting animals, providing positive reinforcement behavior training for both adoptable animals and for owned animals through public training classes, and outreach through community and shelter programs.

IndyHumane provides direct services for shelter cats and dogs, including adoption, foster home placement, behavior training, appropriate medical care, and affordable spay/neuter services. As the voice for the animals, IndyHumane also brings together like-minded, animal-focused individuals and groups to educate the public about animal welfare issues and concerns. The work of IndyHumane deepens the bond between people and their companion animals, and you can celebrate your love of animals at IndyHumane.

“Many realize that IndyHumane provides care for homeless animals and finds them forever homes, but we are so much more than that,” John Aleshire, Chief Executive Officer, says. “We go beyond helping the animals, and we help the people who care for them as well, which I feel is an extremely valuable asset to our community.”

As an Indy Chamber member, the Humane Society of Indianapolis has enjoyed the opportunity to continue to reach Indianapolis constituents and further our reach throughout the city.

“The Indy Chamber has helped us make connections within our community,” Nick Radivan, Director of Corporate Partnerships, says. “As we continue to build and expand our programs, the Chamber is a valuable resource that will help us grow and develop. We look forward to furthering our partnership.”

IndyHumane is the largest, independent nonprofit animal shelter in the state of Indiana, and the organization does not receive any taxpayer dollars, or funding from national organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States or PETA.
