Tools for Business Growth
Creating the right climate for business growth, helping companies succeed and attracting new businesses are essential for central Indiana to compete in the national and global economy.
There must be a strong downtown and urban community base with businesses that provide jobs to residents. The creation of more jobs will result in a solid tax base that adequately supports downtown, urban communities and the region. Additionally, a qualified and skilled workforce must be available in order to attract high-paying and high-skill jobs to central Indiana.
Strong partnerships between government, not-for-profits, business and schools are also essential to enhance the economy. Highways must be upgraded and mass transit developed to transport goods, services and people. Environmental issues must continue to be addressed on a regional basis. If central Indiana is to be truly competitive, its communities must work more closely on policy in an effort to leverage additional dollars from the state and federal government for economic development projects.
Key Initiatives:
Economic Expansion
Central Indiana must have an environment that supports business expansion and growth through economic incentives and strong partnerships between government, not-for-profits, business and schools.
- Encourage entrepreneurial programs that make central Indiana competitive and desirable to businesses looking to grow and expand.
Core City Development
Add to the vibrancy of downtown via more business to bolster the economy and offer more housing and amenities.
- Focus on micro-economic development to encourage growth and expansion in Center Township and surrounding neighborhoods.
Regional Planning and Growth
Central Indiana must begin to think collectively to develop a common vision for the future of the region.
Life Sciences
Central Indiana must capitalize on its competitive edge by encouraging business growth in the life sciences marketplace, adequate infrastructure and a prepared workforce to sustain it.
- Increase incentives for the growth of industry clusters within and around life sciences industries.
Transportation
Central Indiana should develop a mass transit system to serve the region and highways and air travel must be upgraded if central Indiana is to compete on a national and global basis.
Daylight Saving Time
The Indiana General Assembly must adopt Daylight Saving Time because of its positive impact on both expanded commerce and individual/family quality of life.
